Wearable Technology for Sleep Apnea

It's no secret that a good nights sleep is essential for our health and well being.  It is said that 1 in 6 Americans have sleep Apnea and 1 in 50 have it and don't know it.  Often it's the observation of a loved on that will bring it to your attention.  While wearable technology for sleep apnea will not take the place of professional medical labs, they can track your sleep patterns quite accurately.

Home based sleep study devices are not intended to take the place of medically supervised sleep labs.  One advantage over these devices however is that many find it difficult to sleep with wires and monitors attached all over their body.  Another advantage of course is a much lower cost.

What wearable technology for sleep monitoring can tell you:

  • How long it takes you to fall asleep
  • How many hours you stay asleep
  • Are you a peaceful sleeper or a toss and turner
  • How much of your sleep is deep
  • How much of your sleep is in the REM stage
  • How much of your sleep is just light sleep
  • Monitor your heart rate
So while a sleep tracking device is no replacement for a professional, it can certainly help you self diagnose if you actually need to see a doctor.  Considering most that have sleep apnea aren't even aware of it, wearing this device and monitoring your sleep patterns can sound the alarm bells should you have a more serious condition.

There are many options for wearable technology for sleep apnea.  Below I have outlined the top 3.
